Day #2 – Wednesday, June 20, 2018
After an included continental breakfast a Master Gardener joins us for a full day of touring. Our guide will share the inside scoop on the official Quilt Gardens and Murals along the Heritage Trail in the Middlebury and Bristol areas. We have two stops scheduled this morning ….first is the Silver Star Leather Shop where you will be greeted with the irresistible aroma of finely cured leather. Second is Sunshine Baskets, an authentic Amish Country handcraft experience. This shop is located on the family farm of Calvin and Anna Yoder. Watch as family members demonstrate and talk about the processes of turning plain reed into something of beauty and function. Each traveler will have the opportunity to create their own “made in Amish Country” basket. A soup and salad lunch will be served in an Amish home. Time now to vist one of the most photographed spots in Elkhart County, Bonneyville Mill. This handsomely restored mill is the oldest continuously operating gristmill in Indiana. It’s been producing flour for over 150 years. It’s time to return to our hotel, freshen up as our adventure continues into Amish Country with a true experience of a lifetime. Sit down to a family-style Amish dinner that is traditional among these peaceful people. Meet the Yoder family, including grandma, dad and the kids, while they show you how to make some of the best food around the country during this cooking class. There will be no more lumps in your homemade mashed potatoes after this demonstration! Following the class, take an authentic horse drawn Amish buggy ride down the gravel lanes in the
Yoder family personal buggies. (BLD)

Day #3 – Thursday, June 21, 2018
You begin your day with an included breakfast at your hotel, then board your motorcoach along with your local Master Gardener for day two of exploring the Elkhart area. She’ll bring your journey to life while showcasing all of the insider tips, techniques, history, and information of the area. During our tour we have scheduled a visit to Wellfield Botanic Gardens, a “living museum” of unique beauty
dedicated to the celebration of nature and art. Situated just north of downtown Elkhart on 36 acres (18 of which is water), wide paths wind through charming themed Gardens enhanced by sculptures such as the 8 foot bronze sculpture of Tethys, the aquatic goddess of fresh water. The entrance to the Event Garden is framed by 10 steel birch trees, an artistic expression which blends architecture with
nature. These Gardens are home to a handsome collection of bronze wildlife. In the Elk Garden, the majestic Roosevelt Elk represents the life and heart of the Elkhart community. Next we will visit Linton’s Enchanted Gardens. Explore this huge garden center with its many themed gardens including the Japanese Tea House, Southwestern garden with Mine Shaft, Victorian House, Dutch Gardens and
Grist Mill. Shop in the 25,000 square foot gift emporium. Take a ride on the “Linton’s Express Train” around the grounds for a scenic and relaxing trip back in time. A salad/sandwich buffet is included at “B on the River”. Our garden tour continues with our Master Gardener highlighting the unique quilt gardens. Dinner is included prior to our return to hotel. Upon our return to the hotel your evening is free. You may wish to view the classic car cruise which is held every Thursday night. (BLD)

Day #4 – Friday, June 22, 2018
One more breakfast to get you on your way. We board our motorcoach and travel to Nappanee, IN for one last garden experience, Benedict’s Nursery. As you step into this nursery it is a bit like stepping into a scene from a fairy-tale – tiny, remarkable plants that make ordinary plants seem huge in comparison fill garden racks and specially made containers. That’s because Esther Benedict specializes in alpines and other unusual species that are seldom seen in a garden shop. She also makes and sells rugged, rock-like hyper-tufa pots ideally suited for these hearty miniatures. Today enjoy a demonstration on how to make your own fairy garden pot using the plants and products from Benedict’s nursery (products not included in tour but available after demo if desired). Our Amish garden tour comes to an end with your arrival in Newton early this evening. (B)
