Our day begins with a tour of Pioneer Hi-Bred in Johnston, Iowa.  Our tour will show their continued effort in technology, give us an insight to the product development and the research they go through for the products they sell. Following our tour lunch will be served at the Raccoon River Brewery before traveling to Iowa Diecast Toys which house over 3,000 models.  We will learn about farm toy history, see models from the 1950’s to present as well as learn about the companies that have began since ERTL.  Then it on to the Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center at Veterans Memorial which has been renovated with a price tag of $42.5 million dollars and re-opened on January 9, 2012.  West End Architectural Salvage is next on the itinerary where “someone’s junk is another person’s treasure”! Our next stop on our itinerary is the LifeServe Blood Center which every two seconds someone, somewhere needs blood.  Our host for our evening meal is Bella Italia where as you can tell by the name our food will be Italian.  Don’t overeat as we have dessert at Over The Top where everyone will put on a apron and get serious about making ice cream – yes, I said ice cream – a favorite with our group! Everyone will make a full batch of ice cream and then it is time for a taste test . . . what kind will you have since there are over 30 available???  It is then time to travel back to Newton with all our information that we learned about Des Moines – a city so closely located to Newton and with such a variety of businesses!
