UPDATE: SOLD OUT

This is our second in the series of “2012” Iowa travels for JH Travel!  We are headed north for this trip visiting Clear Lake & Mason City to enjoy a beautiful cruise, learn about Meredith Wilson, see a new attraction for Mason City and enjoy great food with a trip down memory lane with 1950’s music!

Welcome aboard our private charter on North Iowa’s premier cruise ship, Lady of the Lake! Just sit back and enjoy a 1 ½ hr cruise aboard this stern wheeler as we cruise around Clear Lake.  After our cruise we have lunch at Bumbleberry Bakery in Mason City before departing for a tour at the Historic Park Inn.  This inn was designed by American architect Frank Lloyd Wright and was completed in 1910.  It is the last Wright designed hotel in the world with a complete renovation.  Restoration with the price tag of $18.5 million brought back the distinctive brick and terra-cotta façade as well as art glass windows and now offers 27 hotel rooms. At our next stop we will learn about the community’s hometown hero. .  Meredith Willson. As we enter the July 3, 1912 River City Streetscape which is based on the sets used in the Warner Bros 1962 version of “The Music Man” we are entering the The Music Man Square.  This will be a “sweet” stop as we will tour the boyhood home of this composer, the streetscape, museum and the The Music Man Square Ice Cream Parlor for an ice cream treat! Entertainment at the Stebens Theatre with “The Taffetas” is next on itinerary.  The entertainment is set in a 1950’s TV studio, the show surrounds the sisters who making their national debut on the DuMont networks program (the biggest gig they have had was at the Moose Hall in Muncie, Indiana).  If they ace this gig it will be Ed Sullivan on the horn in a heartbeat!  Their songs include “Johnny Angel”, “Mister Lee”, “Mr. Sandman” and many more. Before departing the area we will step into the grand elegance of the Decker House, a beautiful 1890’s home restored to its original splendor where our evening meal will be served.

Wow!  We have planned a full day on our visit to Clear Lake and Mason City! Don’t hesitate too long to make your reservations for this fun-filled day as our series of travels in Iowa are popular!
