This is the second trip in the series of discovering, experiencing Iowa with JH Travel! This town has so much to offer and has a variety of attractions and unique businesses that make up Elkader – so come along and join us!
Our first stop will be at Caterpillar, Inc which makes attachments for equipment as in buckets & blades for excavation. Our tour will begin with the flat steel brought in and go all the way to see the finished product ready to be shipped out. Our Irish lunch will be served at Fennelly’s Irish Pub & Restaurant complete with a little Irish dessert! Our next stop will take us to see the totally renovated Elkader Opera House for a history lesson about the process of restoring this historical building back to its original grandeur. Did you know that C J Moyna & Sons Construction builds construction & road work scrapers? There is a very interesting story of this factory as well as how Caterpillar came to Elkader. . . come along to find out!
We will also see a collection of antique bulldozers. On the return back to Newton you will have big fish stories to tell your friends! On this trip we will be visiting the Big Spring Fish Hatchery where we will learn about how long it takes a trout to reach “catchable size” and what the process is to stock them in the Turkey River. Our evening meal will be served at Schera’s Algerian-American Restaurant before the journey back to Newton with fond memories of our experience in Elkader!
Join us for a variety day of learning “how it is made” right here in Iowa, an Irish lunch and an Algerian-American evening meal, a historical attraction and of course . . . meeting new friends along the way! Sign up soon!
